Metal Lux opened for business in 1971 with a vaste range of lights. The
company has always gone to great lengths to study new techniques in order to
craft collections that epitomize tradition, elegance and design. Dedication

To consider of 30 years of company history means also considering the
history of Italy over the last thirty years, from the transgressive 70s to
the glamorous 80s to the minimalist nineties and now leading to a new

considering the situation in the territory of the Veneto, with its constant
search for innovation and excellence, without relinquishing care over
details and craftsmanship. Under the guidance of brothers Rino, Renzo and
Gino Baccega, Metal Lux has earned itself a solid position on the national
market and primarily in the most interesting international marketplaces.
Having reached an important turning point in its history, in which it aims
to strengthen its presence on the European market with young and innovative
products, Metal Lux wishes to celebrate this important anniversary together
with all those who, with their passion for objects made with passion (well-
made), have contributed to these first thirty years of company history.
Metal Lux: the atelier of lighting solutions for the home.
Established in 1971, Metal Lux is based in Torreselle di Piombino - Dese,
between Padua and Castelfranco Veneto, a region that to some extent is the
heart of the North-East's craft industry.
It covers a total area of about 30,000 m2, 5000 of which are enclosed.
The establishment has state-of-the-art equipment, computerized plants and a
CAD/CAM system to design and process dies.
All work phases are managed by highly skilled staff and guaranteed by strict
quality controls.
Respect for the environment is guaranteed by a purifying plant with partial
water recycling.

The company is run by brothers Gino, Renzo and Rino Baccega.
In these 30 years we have produced about 4 million light fittings, using 5
million metres of electric cable, 12 million diffusers, 1 million kg of
metal" we are told by the Chairman Rino Baccega.
Notwithstanding the growth in the number and variety of items manufactured,
company policy has been founded on investments into research and technical
development, placing the problem of quality lighting in direct proportion to
quality of life. Metal Lux products still include all the experience of
craftsmanship the Company does not want to relinquish, enhanced by adding
elegant design and state-of-the-art technology. Today Metal Lux's collection
includes a complete range of light fittings, hanging lamps, ceiling fixtures
and wall brackets, standard lamps, table lamps and occasional lamps for
living rooms capable of satisfying the requirements of customers throughout
the world.
The dynamic and flexible Metal Lux a few years ago created the Hi-tech
division Metalluce, dedicated to the creation of objects for technical
lighting with high aesthetical and technological content.
The company's sales network has been developed in two directions: in Italy
through a network of agents and abroad through distributors, coordinated and
assisted by the Export management.
For the past 20 years this organization has allowed Metal Lux to export to
Japan, the United States, the Middle East and several East European
countries.
The target for the future is to strengthen its position on the European
market.

In 1977 Urbis became a member of the Schréder Group GIE. April 1979 saw a
move to Merton, London SW19, taking 600 square metres of factory space. By
February 1984, it had outgrown its premises and moved to Basingstoke. This
was extended successively by taking adjacent units, and in 1995 the factory
space was increased to 10,000 square metres by taking over an adjoining
factory. In order to cope with the extended product range of street
furniture and lighting, 1998 saw the factory and storage areas reorganised
with a partial relocation to a larger unit behind the original Basingstoke
building, which remains the centre of production and engineering. New
conference and exhibition rooms were also added in 1999. At the beginning of
2003, a new polyester powder painting plant was commissioned into premises
now expanded to 12,000 square metres.
Urbis now employs over 240 people and uses a wide range of local
subcontractors. From small beginnings, Urbis has become the UK's largest
supplier of street lighting and exterior decorative lighting equipment.
Innovation and customer service have been the founding principles.
