Sniace - Spain. Diversified group of manufacturing companies, active in
chemicals, forestation, paper and fibers.
The Sniace group is formed by the parent company and other subsidiary
companies. The most significant are:
1. Lignotech Iberica.
A company specializing in the manufacture and sale of chemicals. SNIACE
uses this company to monitor the environment, by recovering lignin
resulting from the cellulose production process. It is a lye recovery
plant whose end product can be used in highly divers ways. For example,
as an additive to concrete in the building industry, as an addition to
livestock feed or as a binder in general. SNIACE is associated with the
Norwegian company Borregaard in LIGNOTECH IBERICA, holding a 40%
interest.
2. BOSCAN (Sociedad Bosques de Cantabria).
SNIACE owns 1,445 hectares of eucalyptus forest. It has 7,012
hectares in a consortium and a further 44 in an administrative
concession. BOSCAN is the company which manages this Forest Asset. Its
work includes reforestation, conservation, improvement, fire prevention
and fighting and exploitation of the forests operated by SNIACE. The
parent company owns 100% of this firm.
3. Bosques 2.000.
A subsidiary of BOSCAN, it runs an R+D (Research and Development)
programme for improving the volume and quality of eucalyptus
plantations. It develops plans for genetic improvement and for
improving reforestation techniques. The genetic improvement plan is
based on selecting the best trees and woods on the coastline of the
north of Spain. One of every 10,000 trees is selected and enters the
cloning and controlled crossing programmes carried out in a 7,000 m2
forest nursery with green houses and a storeroom. Research work is also
carried out with batches of Australian seeds imported from all their
regions of origin.
4. Sniace Cogeneracion.
SNIACE's power project is run through this subsidiary authorized to
produce up to 100 MW. Part is earmarked for SNIACE's own use and part
is supplied to the general grid, thus enabling highly competitive power
costs to be obtained.
