Whale Launches Motor boats - Builder of wooden sloops and launches.
Located in Cork Ireland.
Our objective is to provide customers with the highest quality classic
motor boats at competitive prices. We make a series of Launches and
Sloops
Whale Launches are multi purpose motor boats. They may be used as
pleasure boats on inshore and offshore waters and double as beautiful
fishing boats for the demanding connoisseur. These launches and sloops
are hand made in hand lay-up GRP hulls and solid Teak finish. The hull
design has served mankind since the 16th century. The Launches first as
Pilot launches, bringing pilots to and from sailing vessels. Now they
function as prestigious luxury launches and maintain their perfect
handling qualities and seaworthiness. The hull shape has not changed
through al these centuries. The materials, interior and finish have.
These now reflect the high expectations of our customers. These are
motor boats for those individuals that demand a classic boat, hand
made, to the highest standard in quality workmanship and finish. A
Launch to be seen in.
The Whale Launches and Sloops are produced to VERITAS specification
guaranteeing the highest level of structural integrity, robustness,
safety and quality. One measure of this is that topsides are 1cm thick.
The design of the superstructure and finish has been performed with
European waters and weather conditions in mind.
Quality at this level does not come cheap. However, if one considers
the price/performance ratio the offering is very competitive.
Previously powered by four or six hulky rowers, today's Whale Launches
and Sloops are fitted with Marine diesel engines or electric
propulsion. We have selected Nanni engines. Nanni diesels have proven
to be extremely reliable and lean of fuel. Hydraulic steering with a
steering wheel and optional dual steering with and additional Tiller
complete a quality package.
Whale Launches operates through a network of authorized dealers each of
them capable in all aspects and being totally committed to the quality
concept.
We had the a Whale Launch to be on display at Boats on Show May 16th-
19th 2002 in Penton Park, UK and met with enthusiastic response. If you
are interested to see and acquire one of these fine boats contact Guy
Girling of VAl Wyatt Marine Sales ltd. in Wargrave on Thames, Berks on
0118 940 3211 in the UK or Whale Launches for other countries.
Yachtsman and Author Tom Cunliffe makes the case for "real" Boating
Boating has always made great recreation because it satisfies body,
mind and spirit in equal proportions. Few other sports or pastimes can
claim as much.
Enjoying the water will always be to some extent physical. The
energetic might opt for the complete workout of sailing a dinghy in a
stiff breeze or a session shoveling coal for a steam boiler, but even a
gentle row down-river in a sweet-lined skiff raises the heart-beat a
notch or two. There is also a clearly defined intellectual component,
whether it be wrestling with a navigation problem, interpreting a
weather forecast, or deciding how to make a tricky building joint. In
these respects, boating remains unchanged by today’s technology, but
the more subtle elements have been largely set aside by mainstream
development. The time-honored maxim, ‘If it looks right, it is right’,
is often no longer true. Before powerful engines and yacht rating rules
arrived, boats were designed first and foremost to move well through
the water and make as little fuss about it as possible. Scant
compromise was allowed for fancy, irrelevant accommodations and the
results were often works of art.
This approach has not died, although it now stands aside from the
flood-tide of passing fashion. Boats are still built bearing no
resemblance to houses or caravans, and their essential character is so
different from everyday life that it is impossible not to be soothed by
involvement with them. Such vessels can be relished for themselves
rather than treated as mere vehicles for making fast passages. The
outcome is quiet satisfaction, a sense of oneness with the natural
world, and genuine value for sensible money.

Working Sail - Builder and designer of classic wooden pilot cutters.
Located in Cornwall, England.
Working Sail are traditional boat builders and designers of classic
wooden pilot cutters. Luke Powell bases his designs on the lines of
historic pilot cutters from the Isles of Scilly, a group of islands in
cornish waters lying at the entrance to the English and Bristol
channel. These sailing working boats of the nineteenth century adapt
beautifully to yachts due to their excellent seaworthiness and good
sailing performance.
