Saab Ericsson Space - Develops, manufactures and markets spacecraft
equipment. The company’s specialist fields are digital and microwave
technologies and mechanics.
Saab Ericsson Space AB was formed in 1992 by merging Saab Space AB with
space activities within Ericsson Microwave Systems AB, both ongoing
since the late 1960's. Saab holds 60% of the stock while Ericsson holds
40% of the joint operation. The company thereby benefits from both
parent companies strong technology positions in defense, aviation and
communication.
The company is process oriented and holds ISO 9001 certificate for
quality and ISO 14001 certificate for environment and continuously
improves its already high-class design and manufacturing facilities. We
have in-house facilities for electronics production in clean-room
environment, test facilities for antennas and environment test
facilities for equipment as well as for large mechanical structures.
Saab Ericsson Space is an independent supplier of highly qualified
equipment to the international space industry. We specialize in digital
and microwave electronics and antennas to satellite manufacturers and
we supply payload adapters and separation systems as well as guidance
systems to launch providers and sounding rocket operators.
We have a fully owned subsidiary in Vienna, Austria named Austrian
Aerospace. They focus on digital signal processing, thermal components
and mechanical ground support equipment.
A sales office in El Segundo, California, assists in finding new
business, supports our overseas customer relations and offers a means
of efficient communication over the time zones.
In 2002, orders received amounted to 641 MSEK (66 MUSD / 70 MEURO). The
number of employees was 634. More than 95% of the value represents
exports. Satellite builders in Europe represented the major market but
some 15% were business in the United States. Some important but smaller
volume business was also found in Russia and in Japan. Our orders
represent both government-financed programs, mainly within ESA (49%)
and purely commercial business with satellite primes and launch
providers (48%) as well as programs on the basis of bilateral
agreements (3%).
